They never did figure out Bill Gogolewski and were shut out 1-0. The Kansas City hurler baffled them the entire game, yielding no runs and 2 hits in a very well-pitched outing. "I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Gogolewski. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
Gogolewski walked 3 and struck out 1 in the 5-0 victory.

The Kansas City manager said, "Montgomery was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."
