Friday, June 1st, 1973: San Francisco's Bonds NL #1 Batter in May
Bobby Bonds is in the final year of his contract with San Francisco and today added a timely piece of hardware to his trophy case. Playing in 28 games in May the 27-year-old right fielder ripped National League pitchers for a .336 batting average, nabbing him the Batter of the Month award.

He also rang up 7 home runs, 30 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

If Bonds keeps up this pace, he'll cost someone a lot of money.

So far in 1973 Bonds is batting .288 with 9 home runs, 39 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 61 hits in 212 at-bats and a .361 OBP.
Friday, May 25th, 1973: Giants Barr Down with Injury
Jim Barr at first refused to leave today's Montreal-San Francisco game after he suffered a strained elbow ligament while throwing a pitch. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty San Francisco starting pitcher said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Barr out of action for 6-7 weeks.

This season Barr has gone 3-2 with an ERA of 2.98, posting 17 strikeouts in 54.1 innings.
Monday, May 21st, 1973: Perry Whitewashes Houston
Gaylord Perry of the San Francisco Giants was lights out in a 5-hit whitewash of the Houston Astros.

He told BNN reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."

He registered 2 strikeouts and 1 walk in shutting out Houston 1-0.

So far this year Perry has made 8 starts, tossed 62.1 innings, struck out 19 batters and walked 18. His record is 5-0 with a 3.90 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .228 batting average.
