Bruce Dal Canton allowed 2 hits while giving up 1 walk and collecting 4 strikeouts as Chicago blanked San Diego 5-0.

San Diego starting pitcher Pat Dobson hasn't been feeling well lately and now has been diagnosed with the flu. He's expected to be out for 2 weeks.
Year-to-date Dobson has made 23 starts and put up a 6-13 won-lost record with a 3.79 ERA. In 178 innings he has allowed 165 hits, walked 53 and struck out 110.

 | Wednesday, August 9th, 1972: Padres Ron Guidry Injured: Day-to-Day
San Diego's star starting pitcher Ron Guidry injured himself in a game against the San Francisco Giants, prompting the team to list him as day-to-day. The doctors are reporting the injury as a tender shoulder and the best medicine is a short period of rest. "Hopefully I don't get replaced by some hotshot wannabe," said Guidry with a smile as he talked to SION reporters.
To date in 1972, Guidry sports a 8-14 mark with a 3.55 ERA in 27 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .251 batting average and has 161 strikeouts in 215.1 innings.
