| Breaking News |  | Friday, June 1st, 1973: Best AL Rookie Named, Nod to Barker
It was an awesome May for Len Barker. The young Boston starter surprised opponents all month and today was announced as the American League Rookie of the Month.
In 5 starts he registered a 4-0 record and racked up 21 strikeouts and a 2.43 ERA in 33.1 innings.
Barker has made 9 starts so far this year and put up a 6-1 won-lost record with a 3.10 ERA. In 61 innings he has allowed 47 hits, walked 28 and struck out 37. |
 | Monday, May 28th, 1973: Red Sox Left Fielder Injured
Carl Yastrzemski of the Boston Red Sox could be headed for the disabled list after suffering a strained groin muscle in a game against the Kansas City Royals. He is expected to miss at least one week. The Boston left fielder was injured running the bases.
So far in 1973, Yastrzemski is batting .287 with 7 home runs and 32 RBIs. |

It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Boston's Tom Haller has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the catcher may not be happy with the club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment.
