Thursday, September 14th, 1972: Gibson Pitches Cardinals to Shutout Win
Bob Gibson had the Montreal Expos dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 8-0 shutout performance for the St. Louis Cardinals. He gave up 5 hits and collected 7 walks and 9 strikeouts.

Montreal hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.

The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."

In 29 starts this year Gibson has recorded a 13-12 record and a 2.51 ERA.
Thursday, September 14th, 1972: Dale Murray to Miss 1-2 Weeks
Montreal fans held their breath as Dale Murray left yesterday's Cardinals-Expos contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 22-year-old starting pitcher had suffered dead arm syndrome while throwing a pitch. It's estimated that he will be out 1-2 weeks.

This year Murray has compiled a 9-12 mark with a 2.79 ERA.
Saturday, September 9th, 1972: Holtzman Tosses Shutout Against Montreal
"I hope we miss him next time," the Montreal manager said. "Holtzman certainly pitched a strong game against us today. He was in a groove, throwing everything for strikes. Throwing hard. Changing speeds."

The Pittsburgh starter tamed the Montreal Expos 2-0 with a 3-hit shutout, finishing the game with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in a sharp outing.

"I enjoy facing a team like that where I can get an out on one, two or three pitches," Holtzman said. "It gives me a chance to be a lot more aggressive."

In 1972 thus far, Holtzman has tossed 202.1 innings in 26 starts, fanned 145 batters, walked 61 and put up a 2.31 ERA with 12 wins and 5 losses.
