Sunday, May 27th, 1973: Chicago Third Baseman Hurt
Watching Tommy Harper getting helped off the field today at Wrigley Field, fans of the Chicago Cubs feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the third baseman will miss 7 weeks with back spasms. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Harper suffered the injury colliding with a player at a base in the game against the Reds.

Harper is hitting .277 in 1973 with 23 RBIs and 4 home runs.
Monday, May 21st, 1973: Davis Swings for the Cycle
It was a special day for Willie Davis at Wrigley Field. Not only did Cubs beat the Montreal Expos 9-4, but the Chicago center fielder hit for the cycle, too. The 33-year-old Davis racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 4-5 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.

In the words of the Montreal manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."
Speaking to the press after the game, Davis said, "First pitch fastballs, that's what I was looking for today... I got some good looks."

W. Davis hit a solo-shot off G. Zahn in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

This season Davis has delivered 48 hits in 155 at-bats for a .310 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .325 clip and his totals also include 31 RBIs and 18 runs scored. This year Davis has played in 45 games.
Friday, May 11th, 1973: Lamb Shuts out Philadelphia
Chicago rode the magical arm of Ray Lamb in a 2-0 shutout win over Philadelphia. He shackled them on 5 hits and fanned 8. Almost to a man, the Philadelphia Phillies said he had them guessing wrong all game long.

Lamb has earned no saves and a 3-5 mark this season with a 4.12 earned run average in no relief appearances. He has worked 54.2 innings, yielded 51 hits, struck out 33 batters and walked 20.
