| Breaking News |  | Sunday, May 27th, 1973: Chicago Third Baseman Hurt Watching Tommy Harper getting helped off the field today at Wrigley Field, fans of the Chicago Cubs feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the third baseman will miss 7 weeks with back spasms. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Harper suffered the injury colliding with a player at a base in the game against the Reds.

Not only did Cubs beat the Montreal Expos 9-4, but the Chicago center fielder hit for the cycle, too. The 33-year-old Davis racked up 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 4-5 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored.
In the words of the Montreal manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today." Speaking to the press after the game, Davis said, "First pitch fastballs, that's what I was looking for today... I got some good looks."
W. Davis hit a solo-shot off G. Zahn in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit an RBI triple in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

He shackled them on 5 hits and fanned 8. Almost to a man, the Philadelphia Phillies said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
