| Breaking News | | Friday, June 1st, 1973: National League Names Rookie of Month Jack Pierce was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

Houston pitchers couldn't get him out as Hargrove seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Braves were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Houston fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant Hargrove in the postgame press interview.
M. Hargrove singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off D. McGinn in the 9th and singled in the 10th.
Hargrove is batting .302 this year with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 126 at-bats. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 28-23, .549 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 5.0 GB | | Record at home | 12-11, .522 PCT | | Record on the road | 16-12, .571 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-3, .667 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 10-8, .556 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 7-4, .636 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 21-19, .525 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 8-13, .381 PCT | | Record in May | 20-10, .667 PCT |
