Friday, June 1st, 1973: National League Names Rookie of Month
Jack Pierce was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's National League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 30 games Pierce batted .298 for Atlanta, slapping 31 hits in 104 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 28 runs and scored 17 times.

This year Pierce is batting .295 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs.
Monday, May 21st, 1973: Player of the Week: Atlanta's Pierce
One of the league's most exciting young players, Jack Pierce of the Atlanta Braves earned himself National League Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 24-year-old first baseman had a lofty .444 average (12-27), collecting 4 home runs, 11 RBIs and 6 runs scored.

This year Pierce is hitting at a .307 pace with 8 home runs and 36 RBIs. He has played in 41 games and scored 19 times.
Wednesday, May 16th, 1973: Hargrove Bashes 6 Base Hits
It seemed that Atlanta left fielder Mike Hargrove could do no wrong as the Braves kayoed the Astros 9-8 today as he rapped out 6 hits in 6 at-bats. Houston pitchers couldn't get him out as Hargrove seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.

"I think the Braves were stealing signs," growled one unhappy Houston fan.

"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play," exclaimed the jubilant Hargrove in the postgame press interview.

M. Hargrove singled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off D. McGinn in the 9th and singled in the 10th.

Hargrove is batting .302 this year with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He has 38 hits in 126 at-bats.
