BTL Double A 06-08-1973 Home | | | Breaking News | | Thursday, June 7th, 1973: Big Day for Goodson: Swats 5 Hits It was a sensational day at the plate for Ed Goodson as he led the charge to a 10-2 win over the Rangers.
The Amarillo third baseman was pure misery for the Pittsfield pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting.
The manager for the Rangers told BNN reporters after the game, "Goodson put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
E. Goodson hit a two-run double in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off J. Dukes in the 8th.
This season-to-date Goodson has 3 home runs and a .331 batting average. | | Wednesday, June 6th, 1973: Reece's Season Could be Over Medical officials from the Memphis Blues reported that the club's 22-year-old catcher, Bob Reece, suffered a fractured skull in yesterday's matchup against the Sherbrooke Pirates while being hit by a pitch. Reece is expected to miss 8 months of action.
For 1973 Reece is batting .212 with 1 home run, 23 RBIs and 13 runs scored. | | Wednesday, June 6th, 1973: Year Over for Cubs Duncan The doctors have spoken and Taylor Duncan of the Midland Cubs didn't like what he heard. The 20-year-old third baseman is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Duncan sustained his season-ending injury during the Shavannah Braves game yesterday at Oklahoma Grounds. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing the ball. Today the Midland medical staff reported Duncan had a torn back muscle and would be absent from the lineup for at least 8 months.
Thus far this year Duncan is hitting .255 with 3 home runs, 33 RBIs and 20 runs scored. | | | | | Yesterday's Games | | Eastern League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Shavannah | Memphis | 7-1 | 1:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Three River | Quebec | 10-8 | 2:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Reading | Knoxville | 2-6 | 7:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Sherbrooke | San Antonio | 4-5 | 2:05 pm | G.Pentz (3-2, 3.86 ERA) | C.Compton (4-6, 4.98 ERA) | | Birmingham | Orlando | 3-2 | 7:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | West Haven | Midland | 4-1 | 2:05 pm | H.Webb (6-2, 1.04 ERA) | S.Waterbury (6-1, 1.50 ERA) | | Southern League | | Away Team | Home Team | Result | Time | Winning Pitcher | Losing Pitcher | | Asheville | Montgomery | 1-0 | 7:05 pm | G.Thayer (7-1, 1.56 ERA) | S.Grilli (1-2, 2.70 ERA) | | EL Paso | Alexandria | 1-5 | 7:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Jacksonville | Bristol | 7-5 | 1:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Pittsfield | Amarillo | 2-10 | 2:05 pm | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Shreveport | Arkansas | 8-5 | 7:05 pm | C.Velazquez (1-1, 1.59 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | Columbus | Waterbury | 11-7 | 7:05 pm | D.Kirkwood (1-2, 1.86 ERA) | J.Unknown (0-0, 0.00 ERA) | | | Today's Games | | Eastern League | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Shavannah (26-35, Road: 12-16) | Memphis (28-33, Home: 15-16) | 1:05 pm | | | | Three River (30-31, Road: 14-17) | Quebec (22-39, Home: 8-23) | 7:05 pm | | | | Reading (26-35, Road: 13-18) | Knoxville (34-27, Home: 18-10) | 7:05 pm | | | | Sherbrooke (26-35, Road: 14-17) | San Antonio (37-24, Home: 23-8) | 7:05 pm | RHP B.Burbach (3-9, 4.97 ERA) | | | Birmingham (27-34, Road: 14-17) | Orlando (25-36, Home: 14-17) | 7:05 pm | | | | West Haven (36-25, Road: 17-14) | Midland (49-12, Home: 26-5) | 7:05 pm | RHP L.Gowell (3-4, 4.02 ERA) | RHP C.Cox (4-1, 4.07 ERA) | | Southern League | | Away Team | Home Team | Time | Starting Pitcher Away Team | Starting Pitcher Home Team | | Asheville (33-28, Road: 15-16) | Montgomery (35-26, Home: 14-17) | 7:05 pm | RHP J.Montague (4-3, 4.17 ERA) | | | EL Paso (21-40, Road: 11-20) | Alexandria (24-37, Home: 12-16) | 7:05 pm | | | | Jacksonville (30-31, Road: 18-13) | Bristol (33-28, Home: 18-13) | 7:05 pm | RHP R.Clark (5-4, 2.64 ERA) | RHP J.Wright (6-2, 3.40 ERA) | | Pittsfield (29-32, Road: 16-12) | Amarillo (32-29, Home: 18-13) | 7:05 pm | | | | Shreveport (33-28, Road: 19-12) | Arkansas (34-27, Home: 17-14) | 1:05 pm | | LHP F.Bertaina (5-5, 4.95 ERA) | | Columbus (34-27, Road: 18-13) | Waterbury (28-33, Home: 14-17) | 7:05 pm | | | | |
