Sunday, July 30th, 1972: 2000 Hits for Cash
Cleveland's Norm Cash got the standing ovation -- but the Milwaukee Brewers got the win.
It was a historic day at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. A day when Cash notched hit #2000 of his career. The fans went wild when he did. Even the Brewers fans applauded.

The Indians first baseman went 1-6 in a losing cause as Milwaukee spoiled the party with the 7-4 victory.

In the postgame interview, a downhearted Cash told the media, "We lost -- It's not about individual accomplishments -- we lost."

When pressed further, he admitted his pride in reaching the 2000-hit mark, "A lot of great players never get there. I'm proud, but I would be happier if we had won."

His lifetime stats show that Cash has hit .265 and connected for 385 home runs.
