Thursday, June 29th, 1972: Stargell Gets #300
The Pittsburgh Pirates had something to celebrate today even though they dropped a 7-3 decision to Montreal. The reason -- the splendid slugger Willie Stargell hit his 300th career homer in today's contest at Three Rivers Stadium.

"I'm fortunate to be here," Stargell told the media after the game. "The Pirates have a classy organization and some great fans. Homer #300 was for them."

Over his career Stargell is batting .258 with 300 home runs and 1014 RBIs. In 1751 games he has delivered 1546 hits, scored 790 runs, stolen 18 bases and gotten on base at a .322 clip.
