| Breaking News | | Saturday, September 25th, 1976: California Yount Gets the Cycle In California's 7-2 win today at Anaheim Stadium, Robin Yount roughed up Minnesota pitching in a big way. The 22-year-old shortstop hit for the cycle, rapping out a single, double, triple and home run.
"What a good day! And my parents and family were here to see it, too," a beaming Yount said after the game. "I really got some good looks today and delivered. Sometimes you're just locked in."
He finished his historic day with 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
R. Yount doubled in the 1st, hit a three-run home run off J. Kaat in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.
In 151 games this season Yount has batted at a .310 pace with 193 hits and 9 home runs. | | Thursday, September 23rd, 1976: Braun out of Lineup 3 Days After the end of today's game between Minnesota and Chicago, Steve Braun skipped the clubhouse and headed straight for the doctor's office. After he was removed from the game as a precaution after being hit by a pitch, the Twins had their worst fears confirmed when it turned out to be more serious. The first baseman will miss at least 3 days with a fractured finger.
So far this season Braun has gotten 162 hits in 518 at-bats for a .313 batting average with 6 home runs. His stats include 62 RBIs and 99 runs scored. He has played in 149 games. | | Friday, September 10th, 1976: Minnesota Hurler Captures 250th Victory His goal at twenty was to win twenty games one year, pitch until he was thirty, win the league pennant and to make some money. Well, Jim Perry did something even better -- the 40-year-old Minnesota Twins star has now won 250 games in his career. That put him in a very select group of pitchers.
He joined that exclusive club today at Metropolitan Stadium by whipping the Kansas City Royals 8-2, holding them to 6 hits in 8.1 innings while chalking up 1 strikeout and 3 walks.
In the postgame interview, the modest Perry said, "It's special to win 250 games. You don't do it by yourself. You do it with good stuff and a good bullpen. You are only as good as the guys behind you. Years from now I might look back on it and give myself a little pat on the back."
Since coming into the league, Perry has a 250-200 mark and a 3.57 ERA. The 40-year-old hurler also has struck out 1789 batters in 4040.2 innings and permitted 4173 hits. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 71-86, .452 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 24.0 GB | | Record at home | 38-41, .481 PCT | | Record on the road | 33-45, .423 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-5, .583 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 21-20, .512 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 17-15, .531 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 54-71, .432 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 7-7, .500 PCT | | Record in May | 16-14, .533 PCT | | Record in June | 13-17, .433 PCT | | Record in July | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in August | 15-15, .500 PCT | | Record in September | 6-18, .250 PCT |
